Default 3rd gear winding/growling noise

I have a 99 honda civic ex with a short throw shifter that I just bought. In 3rd gear and sometimes 2nd it makes a growling/winding noise and doesn't pop out of gear. The noise changes with speed.Any suggestions? Should I consider a rebuild or new transmission if this a problem?I did a search and had trouble finding this in the forum.

Man, I'm having the same exact problem. Two people told me it was throwout bearing and mainshaft bearing. I'm going to post a video of the sounds to better describe the sound.

I asked a transmission shop and they said its a bearing. His suggestion was
used one and not to bother with a rebuild. $300 is the quote for labor.
