"Wants" to turn over? Does it or doesn't it?

Make sure spark plug wires are installed in right positions for proper firing order.

Make sure plugs on distributor are installed and engaged fully.

Plugs are in right order. The car doesn't fire when turning over.Thinking maybe timing belt skipped a tooth or two. Would that make the car not start?

What was your diagnosis method when determining it is not firing?

If the car was running and now it doesn't after changing parts, I suspect those parts at fault. Even if they are new parts, that does not mean they work. I've had new parts that didn't work. I've had overhauled parts that was sent back to the shop for re-do the work because all they did was putting new paint to make it like it was overhauled.

Yes MaaChan is on the right track, if it ran with the old distributor, put that one back on. (if it didn't run with the old distributor, perhaps the problem was / is something else all along?)

In some cases (if the parts are worn enough, or on a rebuilt unit that wasn't put back together properly) the distributor can sometimes be installed with the shaft 180 degrees out of time. The engine will not start at all in that case. Suggest setting the engine to TDC1 (by removing the upper timing belt cover and observe the marks on the cam pulley) then remove distributor cap and confirm the rotor points to wire #1. With the marks lined up you can then also then confirm that the timing belt has not skipped by checking that the plastic pointer for the crank should point to the single mark on the crank pulley.

The timing check is assuming that it fires sparks at all in the first place. Did you check that?
