car wont go past 6000rpm

Default car wont go past 6000rpm

i just bought a 97 civic ex. and i noticed in first gear only that when i hit 6000rpm the car stalls/jumps/cuts out? wondering what this is. if anyone could help that would be great.

hm. my redline starts at 7000 i beleive and i have a d16y8. my old accord and 02 civic would redline..and the way the car acts when i hit it makes it seem like it isnt normal. (bucks, jumps etc)

What happens when you raise the rpms to 6-7K in neutral?

havent tried. only happens (so far) when i go wide open throttle in first gear

It might be worth testing neutral to see whether the problem is linked solely to rpm versus contributions of engagement of the transmission and engine load.

If not linked solely to rpm (e.g., Fuel Cut-Off), then perhaps the engine is slightly out of tune (e.g., timing, plugs, wires, distributor, air filter, etc.).
