No it's not likely the battery terminal as the starter wouldn't work either when connection to the battery is lost. But when you have an obviously faulty part like that though you should replace it before it does cause a problem.
You need a voltmeter to check for voltage. You can tell a little about whether there's power by watching the lights on the dash. Pull the hand brake up. The "BRAKE" light should stay on all the time you're cranking the engine.
Do the check for bad timing belt.
Also take the cap off and make sure the screw for the rotor didn't fall out.
Don't count on NEW parts being automatically GOOD.

I put the brake up, and the light stayed on perfect.
i also checked for a broken timing belt and it did move a little so i think it would be fine
could i have a bad ignition switch if so how would i be able to tell?
thanks for all the help

If there is voltage, then do these additional voltage tests inside the distributor:

Did you install the plug wires in the wrong firing order on the distributor cap?
Is spark bright white?
Some aftermarket distributors can be installed 180-degrees out of phase. Might this have happened?

Does the fuel pump prime? Any CEL codes? Is spark bright white? Is the mechanical timing off by a tooth?
Firing order
The cylinders are ordered 4-3-2-1 from the distributor to the timing belt:
