I don't hear the fuel pump starting up. Any ideas?

 

What model year? 1988 to 1995 consider the main relay first, as it was a problematic part in those.

 

1998 Honda Civic Lx Manual Transmission 1.6L

 

When you turn the key on but don't try to start, does the check engine light come on and then go out? Other lights on the dash (oil and battery) come on? Pull the brake handle up and watch the BRAKE light while you crank the engine, it should stay on all the time.
