Default CEL light

Is it normal for the CEL light to come on and then click off when the key is in the aux position ?

No, you should have to turn it to run (position II). Aux (position I) is basically just to turn the radio on.

All cars are required to do that. It's the "bulb test" function. Very useful to know when you're about to buy a used car; you can tell if someone has disconnected the light to conceal a problem.
