Unhappy Central Locking Trouble

Hi All,

Civic 1997 2 door.

My central locking is going Nuts.
It locks and unlocks itself while driving.
If I lock door I come back to an unlocked car.

Seems to occur more after I wash car or after heavy rain.
Think its a water penetration onto electrics somewhere.

The remote chucked it years ago comon fault with this model.
locking car manually with key.

Any Sugestions most welcome

Jim

Is the locking and unlocking problem happening for only the driver's lock or both the driver's and passenger's lock?

Maybe the door lock switch is bad. Check whether any pairs of the three terminals of the driver's door lock switch (1+2, 1+3, 2+3) have continuity while the switch is in the OFF position (see diagrams below).

Do you still have the stock radio installed? Are you interested in trying to get the keyless remote working again?

hi mate,
Thanks for reply.
Both locks were locking unlocking together.
There is no door lock switch on inner driver handle that I can see.
I sprayed driver door switches with W/D40 to repel any moisture on them.
Now central locking has chucked it.
Only driver door only is opening when I use key.
I have to put key in passenger side to unlock this side. At least it stoped unlocking itself.

Where is the lock switch mechanism located in your Civic?

I don't think that spraying WD40 on electrical switches is recommended. What switches did you spray and where are they located. Can you post a picture?

I didn't think that unlocking the driver's door with the key also unlocks the passenger door. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

My guess is that replacing the driver's inside door lock switch will solve the problem.

Ron, you are right. When using the key, it only unlocks the door and not the opposing door. The driver's side only have the controls from the inside to control both locks. My guess the inside control for the locks is the culprit. If the problem comes back, I would replace the switch too.

May be behind door panel.

yes it does unlock passenger door at same time on mine anyway
