Default changing and checking manual tranny fluid?

im going to change the manual tranny fluid in my 2000 ex coupe, just hit 60,000 miles.

in order to check the level of the fluid after old crap is drained out, is the car suppose to be level or can it be on jack stands to check the level through the little hole?

it should be level, but ive noticed that it takes exactly 2 quarts. i usually put in a couple of ounces of Marvel Mystery Oil when i do mine, and then the last couple of ounces of oil usually spill out. so if you put in 2 qts, then it is probably fine, go ahead and let it down off the stands and then check it once to be sure, but you can add while its flat if you have to.

one more thing, the manual says use honda manual transmission fluid or motor oil as an alternative............do they mean real motor oil?

i thought they make manual tranny fluid.

i have friends with stick shift cars that have used some type of gear oil.

please help.

dont really know why they designed it like that, but it works, and you have less power loss dragging the gears through motor oil than through gear oil.
