Changing manual trans fluid after 245K?
Is it a good idea to change the manual trans fluid if it has never been changed (245K)? Bought the car at 227K, not my fault! But been afraid to mess with it (if it aint broke dont fix it..)
I have to put a new clutch in, figure might as well do this, but I know on automatics it is NOT good idea, but does this hold true for manuals?
thanks

uhhh, i believe for our cars, ur supposed to change it every like 40k miles or so. soooo ya ur well over due for a change. i highly suggest doing a full flush and use Honda Genuine manual transmission fluid only.
Thanks so far...
I know the car definitely is long overdue for a change, no doubt - but at this high mileage would doing a change, let alone a flush, do more harm than good?
I learned this lesson the hard way on an automatic in my truck, I now know doing this on a high mileage auto can often do more harm than good. So I change it religiously now. Unfortunately I couldnt help the condition this car was bought in - but it was a deal and has saved me a lot of gas money!
thanks

i dont see why it would do more harm than good unless something is already damaged. that fluid is probably sludgy and thats why i said do a full flush, to get all that sludge and w/e else out. changing the fluid should only help make the transmission run smoother..
