Default Check Engine Light

Sometimes (usually when accelerating up a hill/onramp) my 93 ex accellerates SIGNIFICANTLY slower than normal (that is on hills) and then the Check Engine Light pops up. I noticed that it happens when I'm pushing the gas a little harder than normal. I don't know about that though, because for a 15 year old car on 138k miles, it's pretty responsive and can take some beating.

When I turn the car off and back on the light isn't on anymore, so I'm assuming it isn't a HUGE problem. But still...i don't like that evil red light staring at me while I drive.

This only happens every once in a while, like maybe once every one and a half months. Maybe some of you guys could give me insight on what this might be?

Retrieve the Check Engine Light (CEL) code as described here:

http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread/1901557

Clear the code and, when the CEL again turns ON, retrieve the code to determine whether it is the same as before. Any repeated code will likely help identify the problem. Post your code(s) in this thread for more advice.

I'm not sure if that will work, because it involves turning the car off...and when I turn the car off the CEL won't show up again.

When the CEL turns ON, the code is stored in the ECU. Even if the CEL does not remain lit, the code should still remain in the ECU.
