Default Civic Coolant hose

Ok guys, so I did a swap in my civic b/c my motor blew. I used a 95 dx block with a 96 Vtec head. I put everything together, but there is a skinny hose coming from the back block next to the lower radiator hose. I am not sure where that hose goes. I took it to one of those commercial car shops and asked them to check the hose placement for me and they said everything looks good after 5 minutes and that hose is just a breather hose. I don't think so since it is coming out of the water pipe and shooting coolant all over the engine when i give it gas causing the car to overheat quickly. Does anyone know where this hose goes?

Some of the parts on the intake manifold have coolant flowing through them. Hoses about the size of fuel lines are used to connect them up.

If that's all hooked up and you still have an extra port you can just plug it up.

Sounds like it could be the FITV. If you're using the 96 intake manifold, it doesn't have an FITV... but the 95 block will have a hose for it.

I don't think its an extra port. I think it may be the hose that connects to the back of the idle sensor? For now I'm just gonna plug until I get home.

Thanks

Would the FITV hose be located on the block right behind the water pump? If so and I do need to plug it, what do I use to plug it?

Yes I have the same thing running a '95 engine in my '91 with the old DPFI manifold. I put a short piece of hose on that port and plugged up the end of the hose with a bolt (use a longer bolt that is not threaded all the way to the head, and clamp on the smooth section). It has held up OK but a less "rigged" way would be to use a brass barbed hose to pipe adapter and a pipe plug. Or pinch the port shut and weld it, or swap the whole pipe on the back of the engine between the thermostat and the water pump with the one from your old engine. I think it will fit but would've been a lot easier to do with the engine out of the car.
