Default CLUNK sound

Sitting in the car, and not driving at all, when I turn the steering wheel slightly back and forth it makes a CLUNK sound, so I replaced the inner and outer tie rods, mainly due to boots being ripped and 135,000 miles on the stock ones. So with the new parts on it still makes the noise. Could there be somthing inside the steering rack thats making this noise ? Considering the car is not even running just slightly turning wheel left to right ?

The best way to check this is to have someone turn the wheel while you go around and listen to various parts to locate the source of the noise. Use a mechanics stethoscope or simply a length of hose held to your ear for pinpoint listening.

It could also be the u-joints and other parts in the steering column, inside the car.

Darren,

Hmm, if I were to make an educated guess I am inclined to say that your lower ball joints may be worn. I've heard this issue occur to many Civic owners and most of them initially thought it was the tie rod ends. However, the real culprit turned out to be a worn lower ball joint. Inspect the lower ball joints and replace accordingly. For your reference, the OEM p/n is 51220-S04-003 and you'll have to buy two of them. They cost anywhere from $40-$55.

Good luck with the repairs!

I had a similar problem on a Pontiac, it was a faulty front wheel bearing hub.

If the wheel bearings have never been replaced, that could be the problem.
