Couple of really annoying problems with 88 dx
Ok, so my dad gave me an 88 dx hatchback a year ago and it ran flawlessly when i got it the only problem with it is that the engine light would come on whenever I would press the clutch and roll in neutral or take it out of gear and roll or sometimes just while im stopping. It doesn't come on if I avoid being in neutral, avoid not having my engine revved at all times and if I never slow down lol. Now I still have this problem and it really sucks, as soon as the light comes on I lose alot of power, like my car doesn't want to go or something, and everytime i shift my car jerks very hard. My dad got a new ECU, got a diagnostic and they couldn't find the problem. So my first question is anyone know why this is happening, anyone else have the same problem, what can I do to fix this? It really makes me hate my car everytime the light comes on.
Now my next problem came about after I put a feul injector cleaner in my gas tank. As soon as I shift my car should lower the RPMs and catch the gear that I put it in and go. But it doesn't do that. After I shift and put my foot on the gas, the car doesn't stop revving high, it revs higher without picking up any speed, then I have to let off the gas all the way then slowly touch the gas until it catches the gear and goes. I never used to have this problem. I could shift, then floor the gas and it wouldn't rev any more than what the transmission would let it, and it would slowly pick up speed. Now it just revs all the way and doesn't go, it really sucks, I know im wasting a **** load of gas because of this. Well can anyone tell me what to do about this. I realy don't have much money(why else would I be so worried about my 88 dx lol) this is my main car to get to work and school, so I'd really appreciate some help to fix my baby.

not sure about the engine light,
but....
the second problem is the clutch... Time for a new one.

i have an 88 lx.
as for as the 1st paragraph - you can read the code to determine what caused the check engine light to come on.
you can do it while running, or even easier, just turn the key to the ON position.
take the carpet down under where a passenger feet would be. there is the ECU. there will be a light that blinks. i think it may give one blink, and that followed by a number of blinks. there will be a long pause between the series of blinks that you need to count. the blinks that you are counting will be short blinks.
there may be more than 1 series (meaning there are more than 1 code).
count the number, then you can look up what the number is referencing.
i should have said to take the carpet down and then turn the key to ON. one should not leave the key in the ON position for an extended period of time.
