cruise control
Sounds like a faulty vehicle speed sensor (VSS), which sits atop the transmission. (search forum for pictures)
Is the Check Engine Light (CEL) ON?
Start by inspecting the VSS connector. It may be loose or corroded. If the connector and wiring look fine, the VSS may need to be replaced.

Here's how to pull the CEL code from the ECU at home:

I suspect the code will indicate a problem with the VSS/VSS circuit. The VSS is essential because it tells the cruise control system how fast the car is going.

my civic (96 ex)does the same thing with the cruise, i can set it, it will hold that speed for a second, then start dropping, now i have no CEL, so could it be a vacuum leak somewhere, isnt the cruise ran off vacuum?
