ok, after a long and treacherous headswap on my '91 CRX, i couldn't get the damn car to start. After the eventual distributor and distributor harness swap donated by my beloved '93 Civic EX (now totalled) i got it to start. My problem is now that my CEL comes on, i'm not too sure what for, and the engine seems like it has a rev limiter that kicks in at 3000 RPMs. I'm about to go check codes on my car and see what they are for, it might be the 02 snesor, and temp sensors that go into the head, seeing as they were removed during the headswap, and are now reconnected and seem to work fine. According to my A/F gauge and temp gauges. Any ideas? i'll be back in a little while with the CEL findings...

 

What ECU are you using?

 

check the codes. reset the ecu. drive it around. and see if codes come back. if they do check the codes again. see if they are the same.

 

it's the stock ECU. I checked the codes and got #4, the crank position sensor, #8, the top dead center sensor, and #20, the electrical load detector. reset the ecu, only got #20, then drove the car around a little, and got #4 and #8 again. any ideas?

 

You need an ECU that can control VTEC. How did you hook up the VTEC solenoid, did you modify your engine harness?
4 and 8 have to do with the sensors in the distributor. Something is wrong with your wiring, but I'm not really familiar with this swap, or what you did, so I don't know what to tell you without researching it more myself. check the ef-honda.com forums, that's where I would look first

 

ok, i now know that the two sensors in the distributor are the ones i need to fix. my vtec controller is a standalone piece, and the spool valve functions perfectly. now, is it possible to get these sensors to work with this distributor without rebuilding it with parts from the stock one?
