Default D15 swap question

Alrighty, I have a 1994 honda civic VX that has the D15Z1 VTEC-E motor in it. #3 cylinder is getting alot of oil and fouling out the plug. Therefore alot of wasted gas, excess smoke, etc. Also, their is a considerable amount of smoke and air coming from the valve cover PCV port. (Which should be vacuum.)

My theory was that maybe a valve guide was bad, or their was carbon deposit/build up on a valve and oil was seeping past into the cylinder. And the PCV port issue can also be addressed by the valve NOT sealing in the closed position. (im an oldskool small block V8 guy, this is in reality my first shot at an import.)

Some have told me that the rings are bad...but having rings go bad in one cylinder does not make sense to me. Their wouldnt be the amount of blow by VIA the valve cover if the rings were bad. My guess is this is telling me there is plenty of compression but a leak...via the valve? haha.

Okay the whole point of this post, I have a D15B7 non vtec motor sitting here. The motor I have in my car is the stock motor, it is WAY expensive to buy a rebuild kit, so I was thinking of swapping the motor I already have into place of the stock motor.

The main question is this:

(I have searched but aparantly this is mainly a performance focused website...therefore a swap of this nature is like WTF?)

Being that my computer is the car now is for a VTEC motor, it couldnt be used for the non vtec motor if swapped?

Is there somewhere that this information is available to compare ECUS etc?

Default RE: D15 swap question

check the ecu number if it is a P08 then you would be fine usuing that i would think, cause i have a D15B7 in my car and it uses a P08 ecu, other then that i would think that the swap would be fairly straight foreward.. but i have never done or even attempted at a swap myself so i really don't know.. give it time and someone with more knowledge then me will fix ya up hopefully

I think you're in the same boat I was here recently. If you want only to get your car going and aren't worried about a performance swap, then I would sell the D15B7 (it's very popular and will go quickly) and buy a long block D15Z1 VTEC-E motor to do your swap. It's a pretty easy swap really. Just unbolt your intake and stuff and pull the old motor. Drop the new one in and bolt everything up. Don't need to worry about ECU's. Your ECU won't know it's got a new engine in it. There are lots of places selling low milage engines imported from Japan. Good luck.
