d16y7 head questions
#11
I set head up on edge, ports up. Then used carb cleaner to spray into port.
With no cam installed, the liquid just pours out on some.....
plus you could see that some are just not right..
What would bad guides do? Are they hard to replace? I'm sure I can get valves out and back in.....

Ok, update on stuff.......
I bent 6 valves- 4 intake 2 exhaust.
Guess that would explain the rough idle.. LOL
I have replaced the 4 intake, and one exhaust. Too cold to get last one in.
Liquid leak tested the intake valves and all 4 now hold liquid.
Continue on tomorrow.....

It's running again! Just drove up the road with one severely dead battery.
What is the correct way to time it?
I marked where the dist was and just put it back there for now.
I have a light. Just need to know the right way to do it.

awesome man, Thanks. Will be doing this tonight when I get home from work.
ALso, how bad will a dead battery effect how it runs? I know- DUH it won't start on it's own.
Doesn't even light the interior light. But jumping it fires it right up.

The battery is important to stabilize the system voltage while running. With it open circuit, there will be voltage drops and surges. You could test by leaving it connected to another car with jumper cables so you're using the other car's battery.
If it's not that, the usual reasons for unsteady idling are a dirty IACV or the cooling system not completely full.
