Default Dash lights quit working

Since I got the car (97 civic lx) I had to move the dial to get the dash lights to come on. Tonight they wouldnt come on at all. Havent noticed anything else not working. Im thinking either loose connection or bulb? Any other suggestions?

I might try and add leds if Im going to have to take it apart anyway...

cool, I was hoping there was some sort of "common problem." Pretty easy fix?

I agree with gwl, the dimmer switch is a very common problem. But first check whether fuse 30 is blown. Next carefully pry the dimmer switch out of the dash, and then install a jumper wire into the connector such that the red and black wires are connected. The dash lights should now illuminate at full intensity with the key turned to ON(II). If so, replace the dimmer switch.

if your dimmer switch turns out to be bad, i have a mint condition one for sale for $10 plus shipping.

I also have a faded one (color is faded on the grey plastic cover) for $5 plus shipping.
