I brought a used car last oct (honda civic'97 automatic). All of a sudden i started feeling the gear change (A small hick ups) when i drive. What do you guys think, do i need to change the trans fluid and filter.. I really do not know when my previous owner changed it. Can i check it as a new bie, whether it is needed or not? Or is it totally a different problem. Following are list of things i did recently.

1. Checked the brakes with pepboys (Found no problem)
2. Did oil change
3. Had tire rotated.
4. Poured fuel system cleaner.

What does hick up mean? What exactly happens? Pull the trans dipstick and if the fluid is any color other than bright red, the fluid needs to be changed.
