Default E brake light on after replacing drums

1999 Civic EX

I searched for something similar, couldn't find anything...

I just replaced (DIY) my rear drums/shoes after replacing the front rotors a couple months prior. I bled the lines, the master cylinder is topped and I have good pressure on the peddle. The car stops great. The E-brake works fine as well.

The E-Brake light keeps turning on when I am not using the brakes. The weird thing is if I touch the brakes the light will go away from a few seconds to few minutes (completely random)

I would expect if I had a pressure issue the light would come on when I pressed the brake instead but I may be off base on that.

Has anyone had an issue like this....my next step was to bleed the brakes again, but like I said the foot brake has good pressure.

Thanks in advance.

E-brake light is also for low brake fluid. Check the master cylinder for proper fluid level and check the float on the cap. Its a magnetic type switch.

Alright, I'm a jackass. After gwl's post I though I would take a look at the float. I discovered that master cylinder cap was not tightened properly, it was never 'clicked' shut I guess. The front arrow was pointing to the side. I guess when ever I would hit a bump the lid would hop up? I made sure no debris had entered, and all is good now.

seriously GWL, I have the same problem took off all my tires and checked for leaks cracks in hoses and you mean to tell me that the reservior may just be low after all that.. I just did the brakes all round and couldnt undestand why the light went on and I was wondering if there was a reset for it or something? I will check the reservoir and see if it is low.. thank you for the reply post .. it is good to know I may not have to wait to fix this issue..

when brake pads wear down it uses more fluid to fill the slave cylinders.
yea the brake light comes on when the fluid is low.

That is why I'm not a big fan of adding brake fluids between brake pads replacements. The fluid replaces wear, so when I low on brake fluid I inspect my brakes for wear and leaks. 99 percent of the time I need to change my pads.
