my 1991 1.6 rolls over but wont start however it backfires through the intake not the exhaust any ideas what the problem is? thanks

Backfires through the intake? Wouldn't that mean your timing is off by 180*?

sounds like timing. roll er over enough times and it'll prolly start. i had the same problem before after doing an engine swap. could be that yer timing belt jumped a tooth or two. or just your ignition timing. mine would start if i cranked er over enough, then would start perfect as long as it was still warm. was backfiring thru the intake just like yours. but i wouldn't reccommend driving it like that. i did it just because it was christmas and i wasn't going to have shop access for a few weeks, and the new engine blew up after two weeks.
