Engine swap questions
This is more of a nit picking legality question than anything else. My D16z6 (pretty sure I got that right) in my 95 EX is sitting on about 172k miles, and I'm putting quite a few on it every week. I eventually want to put in a turbo, but I'm thinking about putting a fresh engine in it before I do. Now, let's say I put in an engine with 30k miles on it. Do I leave the odometer at 172k or should I roll it back to 30k? Not a major issue, but if I ever decide to sell it (God, no), if I can legally have the odometer reflect the engine/tranny mileage, that'd look a lot better on it. Also, since I'm planning on just putting in a new one of the same engine I already have, do I have to replace the ECU, transmission, etc, or can I just swap out the engine? Also, if there's not going to be much of a cost difference in skipping out, should I just go ahead and swap all that other stuff out at the same time for newer parts?
Even without the need for the extra parts, would it be a smart idea to swap out the transmission, clutch (starting to feel kind of sticky almost), etc, while I've already got it ripped apart?
You wouldn't need to, but it would be nice to get a brand new clutch installed so that you don't have to worry about it. I would think about getting stuff done like the timing belt and water pump when installing a new motor in addition to a new clutch/flywheel.
If your current tranny works without any problems whatsoever, you shouldn't need to have a new one installed. If you want to spend an extra $300 or so on a fresh d series tranny, go right ahead!

I can't say I'd know a transmission problem if it walked up and introduced itself, but it seems to shift alright except the sticky feeling clutch I mentioned, so I'll drop that money towards the water pump and timing belt instead.
If it's not hard to get into any gear, doesn't grind, and doesn't make any noise, I'd say your transmission is just fine.
like cvcrcr said, it's probably a good idea to swap out the water pump/timing belt/etc while the engine's out. And the clutch isn't a bad idea while the engine's out, either. For a FF, you either pull the engine out to get the transmission out or you put the car on a lift with an engine support and drop the subframe and transmission. The second option is a lot easier, but not many people have access to the equipment to do it (and even then it's still kind of a PITA lol). I'd say change the clutch while you have the engine out.
