Frozen Power Steering
Lately, as it gets cold at night and i come out to my civic in the morning, I occasionally find that my steering is frozen. Once it was so bad i couldnt even turn the wheel, but usually it just takes some effort. However, if i just let the car sit and warm up then the power steering loosens up and i go on my way as normal. Im just wondering if the best thing to do would be to flush out the power steering system as there might be water in it or if its something else. just wondering if that is what it is before i go ahead and drain my car's power steering system unnecessarily. Thanks for you help.
I have never run across this on a Honda, but in the GM world it has always come down to the "rack and pinion" going out. Letting it warm up without forcing it loose will allow it to last longer, but there will be a day that you will not be able to break it loose.
Once the GM "rack and pinion" would break loose it was good to go but as time goes on (6 months to a year later) it starts to bind just a little from time to time while you are driving down the road and then gradually get worse to the point it became dangerous (very bad thing).
