Okay, I agree with yall... i will take your advice and look for a QUALIFIED shp to do the job...BUT one quick question...

Where is the best spot to get these OEM parts yall keep referring to? Unless you mean get them from the Honda dealer? Or is there a just as good alternative someone out there?

Thinking ahead and for the future.. I want to invest in a good set of ramps and jack stands.. for possible future jobs.. I have used Autozone, walmart, ect, ect crap in the past and I agree, I don't want to continue trusting my life to those products.. I mean when I was younger.. I was obviously invincible... but now I know I"m not..

Any recommendations? (also have a 05' Honda Pilot, so would come in handy there as well, i.e. oil changes)

Also Whats the best manual to buy? The Chilton one sucked.. obviously I'm goin to that school today to download Mundy5's version..but I got a birthday coming up and xmas right around the corner, you know I mean!

any links or titles would help out the bday list!

THANKS AGAIN

well for oem parts... cheapest ive found other than a friend at a dealership is off ebay. ive bought several items from this oem seller.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/96-97...Q5fAccessories

and if you wanna save 10bucks or so just make the min bid and not the buy it now price.
good seller prompt shipping from them and all oem sealed parts.
now if you want to do a COMPLETE JOB then id also buy the oil seals for the crank pulley and cam pulley, and also the tensioner pulley also.
they are pretty cheap and its not much more $$ to have them installed at the same time.... otherwise say you have a oil leak from the cam or crank shaft.... well to replace those seals they have to pull apart the whole side of the motor again which at a later date would just cost you more money in labor mainly.

it might not be needed BUT if you truely want it to be trouble free for along time its best to go the extra mile.

holy smokes, yall weren't playin about the dealers.. just got off the phone with my local honda service department..DUDE would not give me a price on the OEM timing belt kit.. but did try to force me to go thru them to get it done..

$614 for the parts and labor!!! HOLY SMOKES!!!!

I'm gonna have to find a safe and reliable shop....

$600 is just too much!!

doh, just saw your post now.. wow that Timing Belt OEM Kit is STEAL!!! Just got off the phone again with Honda, they wanted $110 just for the Timing belt..and $55 for the water pump..and the 3 accessory belts were going to be a separate charge for each one..

That Kit seems to include it all for only $120!!, I see a timing belt, a water pump.. and 3 accessory belts,, power steering, alternator, and air conditioner...

IS THERE anything else I would need? the ebay listing states for an extra $42 I can get the timing belt tensioner? No idea what that is or if its even needed?

also where can I get these seals you speak of?

REALLY appreciate it my man!

THANKS

all at the dealership or just contact that ebay seller and ask him for a price. he will tell you. and still be cheaper than your local dealership parts counter will charge you!
but for the labor at a dealership thats not to bad really. i figure thats about 3-400bucks for labor. but seeing how its a honda dealership they should do it right. theres alot of little things that have to be done to replace the belt, like pulling off the accesory belts and motor mount, and then once its done you still have to put a timing light on it and adjust the timing and put it all back together. it can be a hassle.

and the tensioner is what adjusts the timing belt tension. but the tension isnt the problem its because that piece is basically just a pivot bearing, and they do just go bad and start squalling really bad over time. so its best to go ahead and swap it out also since its very easy to swap it out!
hardest thing to swap out is those oil seals with the motor still in the car. when i did mine my motor was out while i was changing the clutch for the tranny so i did it all at once just to be safe.

You will need a valve cover gasket and sparkplug tube seals. And have a valve adjustment done too at the same time.

d*M will the dealer know all this stuff?

I still have not done anything as yet.. I called TWO honda dealers..and they both practically tried to TALK me out of doing anything..

and I quote, "well is your car making a HIGH PITCHED whining noise?, no well then you don't really need to change the belt yet.."

and when I insisted and I said well as long as you guys have the engine exposed can I have the oil gaskets replaced with new one's.. and again they told me their policy was NOT to change the oil gaskets UNLESS it was leaking oil.. I was like, all the same can you still do it.. he RELUCTANTLY agreed...

but it was like pulling teeth.

they are quoting me $650 out the door to replace the timing belt, water pump, 3 accessory belts, and the two oil gaskets..

Does that sound reasonable?

and HOW will I know they aren't ripping me off.. i.e. how WILL I know they swapped out the oil gasket seals?

and I don't even want to get into

what dude above just said..

man this is getting out of hand.. is that like a tune up or something?

I'll do it.. I just want to make sure I know what I'm doing, er what i'm paying to get done..

let me know..

thank you!
