Default grinding in ls civic

i recently dropped in a ls motor into a 91 hb. i notince during the swap, i could only torque the axle so much or the wheels wouldnt spin. is that normal? but i put them in anyway, with some lock tight and hammered the edges of the nut. everything was good for a couple of days and then started a wierd grinding noise, like when youve needed brake pads for a while. but the breaks are new, all the way around. it even goes on when im driving in a straight line. anyone had this problem before? please help.

I would guess something's not Kosher in there. If you were running tapered rollers that would be normal but you're probably not, given the application. The noise is probably indicative of the bearing binding up for one reason or another. Bear in mind though I'm basing this on similar applications, I really don't have any knowledge about your particular vehicle. I'd consult a shop manual & find out the torque spec for the nut. If it can't be tightened to that spec with out binding you've definately got a problem.
