Grinding noise
Chock up another stupid question for me. I was driving last night and as I slowed down, I noticed a really weird fast sawing noise. When I came to a complete stop, it was gone. As I accelerated, the noise started back up and sounded pretty awful (I'm sure everyone describes an unfamiliar sound as awful).
I hit a bump and the sound went away and hasn't come back in the past 15 miles.
Without any additional info, is there really anything it could be specifically? I imagine maybe a rock in the front brake, or a messed up bearing, or umm... I have no clue.... It sounded like a gnome was in my engine compartment sawing tiny logs. His sawing was synonymous with my speed.

Actually, now that you mention it, I do live in an area where it freezes. It was freezing last night. Why do you mention that? By the way, it happened after I had driven about ten miles, but wasn't there when I initially started my car and drove off. Oh, you thinking maybe gravel on the road during icey conditions? There is tons of gravel right now...
