Default Head light issue 92

Hey im having an issue with the car i just bought. It is a 92 civic dx. The lights were blown when i bought the car, the dash lights wouldnt come on. When i checked the fuses the dashlight fuse was blown. So now that was fixed so i went to fix the ehadlights. When i got the new silverstar ultras they wroked like a charm on low beam, so i testes the high beam. Flicked them on and off every 2 mins for about 6 mins so i could see the difference and when i did they blew. Anyone know whats causing that?

Take the bulbs out and check them (whenever something doesn't light up, always check the bulb first). Getting dirt or fingerprints on the glass of a halogen bulb will cause it to swell up and burst after a short period of operation.

If the bulbs are OK proceed to under the dash where there are four 10-amp headlight fuses, one for each side and each beam. Make sure there is power to the two high or low fuses when the selector is in that position. Do this with the fuses still plugged in and probe on the metal test points on the top of the fuse. Does the blue high-beam indicator on the dash light up? If you have low but not high and the bulbs and fuses are good it almost has to be the column light switch itself.

If the dash light/tail light fuse blows again, check for shorted wires behind the radio. The circuit goes there to light up the face of a stock radio, and sometimes the wire gets shorted when installing an aftermarket radio.

mk pretty much said it all. The only thing I would add is that the blown dash lights fuse often indicates a short in the dimmer switch. If the fuse blows again, pry the switch out of the dash, unplug the connector, and insert a jumper wire between terminals for the red and black wires in the connector. If the fuse no longer blows, replace the switch.
