Default HEATER CORE FLUSH?

Is there a way to flush a heater core? 91 crx dx heat not hot dont want to go through trouble and money right now to replace. Maybe way to get more life out of old one? Too many other things to do to it right now.

Disconnect heater inlet and outlet. Flush with water hose in both directions relative to normal flow. ***Avoid splashing water all over the engine, wires, harnesses, and battery by covering in plastic sheets.***

No chemical flush? Is this the safest way?

What chemical would be safer than water? I would start with a more simple approach relying only on pressurized water.
