Make sure you have enough coolant in the radiator and bleed out any air. Also, check the heater valve near the firewall and make sure the cable is actually moving the valve.

Yes these are classic symptoms of low coolant level. Park on level ground or facing uphill and wait until the engine is completely cold. Check / fill the radiator itself not just the clear plastic tank. Open the bleeder bolt on the top hose fitting on the engine to get most of the air out. Then close the bleeder, set the heater dial all the way to hot and start the engine with the cap off. Keep adding to the radiator as necessary to keep it completely full. As the engine begins to warm up, the level will come up and overflow. Put the cap on at that point and test-drive.

After a couple of trips, wait until it is cold and check again. The radiator needs to stay full to the top. If you find coolant going out of the radiator even though the plastic tank stays full, the radiator cap could be bad, there's a head gasket leak, or there's an air leak in the hose from the radiator to the tank. If the tank and the radiator both become empty, there is a leak somewhere.

Ok so it looks like the valve is moving when I change the climate control knobby thing. So that seems like it works and I might need to change the coolant cuz it's looking a little gross. Just to be on the safe side.

While you have the system drained, disconnect the heater hoses and flush through the heater core with a garden hose. Use of "stop leak" products can clog up the core and cause no heat.

I'm also having the same problem in my 96 cx. I've flushed the coolant a good four or five times, changed the thermostat, and i've bled out all of the air. also, my heater valve is working, and coolant is topped off.

I just can't figure it out..it blows out air, but luke warm at best.
