Default Help with distributor bushing

Looking on advanceautoparts.com I find a distributor bushing listed. Can someone please explain how to remove the distributor and replace the bushing, and explain how to reinstall the distributor and not mess up the timing? I need to get this done as soon as possible.

Well you'd just mark the position of the slotted "ear" of the distributor relative to the place it bolts to on the head. That's the fine adjustment. Really after working on the distributor, you should always retime with a light.

Before removing, take the distibutor cap off and note the position of the rotor. It'd be best to turn the engine to TDC of cylinder 1 before removing, so you don't have to remember. But even if you don't, the rotor only engages two ways: either correct or 180 out, so you have a 1/2 chance of getting it right if you just blindly put the distributor back on. Also the driver on the dist. shaft is marked with a line as should be the end of the cam.

I think most people replace the distributor as a unit. It's kind of complicated to take apart, not really intended to.

So now i'm wondering if this knock is coming from the distributor even though the engine runs perfect. Do you think a new dizzy could fix this knock?
