Can anyone identify this for me? It broke when we pulled the motor.

It's the VTEC pressure switch. Tells the ECU that there is sufficient oil pressure to successfully engage the VTEC.

Nice clear picture by the way.

When I was removing the engine I took the starter off and attached the chain to the top starter bolt. It would seem unbalanced, but remember the engine is much heavier than the transmission. But it wasn't a VTEC so it might still have broken something doing it that way on yours.
