My speedo is going crazy... What could be cause this.

 

Bad ground....clean your grounds and clean your battery terminals...

 

VSS(variable speed sensor), the connection to the VSS, the gauge cluster itself, i think that there may be some other possible causes but i can't remember... i have the same thing happen to me all the time... i jsut ignore it after a while.. then it works again... the only annoying thing is when your cruising and you see a cop, but you dont know how fast your going.

 

Yeah it's really getting on my nerves. I past a cop tonight and I had no clue how fast I was going.

 

try you battery connections first...it's easier than throwing parts at it and I had it happen on multiple vehicles and that fixed it most of the times

There was a thread about this the other day. I have the same problem. Speedometer and odometer have worked intermittantly going on 3 months now. I called the dealership and they said it could either be bad cables or the sensor could be going out. I pulled my cluster out last night and kind of played with the cables while driving slowly to see if I could trigger the problem. I know my battery cables are on tight because my alarm remote battery died and I had to pull the battery cables and tighten them back. Dealer wants $80 to check it out. I am getting sick of reading my RPMs for speed and I never know what kind of gas mileage I'm getting. I wish I had another guage cluster to test out....
