Default Help Opening Fuel Tank Door ('04 Civic)

Hey everyone! Just thought I'd reach out for some help on the Honda Civic forum. I have a 2004 Civic and I am unable to open my fuel tank door due to cold weather. I have used de-icer, water, a credit card, and a flathead screwdriver....resulting in nothing but a few scratches on my car. Fantastic!

I just encountered the problem today when I stopped to fuel up. I mashed down on the fuel tank door release and had no resistance whatsoever. I didn't hear anything release, but nothing felt out of the ordinary. Of course, the fuel tank door didn't open...so I opted to go home and try to use some tools to get it open. After many unsuccessful attempts, I'm here hoping I can get some advice on what to do.

Does anyone have any suggestions? When I was swiping with the credit card, it didn't feel as if there was any ice restricting the fuel tank door from opening. I'm wondering if the cable has froze or if it has something to do with the latch not being caught? I read somewhere to use a flathead screwdriver to apply pressure to the door and then go to the front and hit the release switch. I did this and the door did not pop open.

Any help would be appreciated!
