The 3 wire connector is used only with special equipment at the factory or dealer. There should be a 2 wire connector right next to it.

Replacing the 2-wire coolant temperature sensor located under the distributor should solve the running rich problem. The sensor is located adjacent to the one-wire temperature sending unit.

but next problem here is the e test
hc ppm limit 82 reading 254
co .45 reading 3.33
no limit 636 reading 1584
at 2022rpm

at idle
hc ppm limit 200 reading 366
co 1.0 reading 4.97

i got a diagnostic for it
it says replace cat
acetylene gas
exh gasket
exh gasket
and replace o2 sensor

my question is wtf is acetylene gas
and how do i find out which gaskets need to be replaced in the exhaust

Do do you now have a new coolant temperature sensor hooked up? Is the sensor connector damaged?

To clear the ECU of old CEL codes, simply remove the 7.5A BACKUP fuse under the hood for 1-2 minutes and then reinsert. (There's no extra benefit to disconnecting the battery for an entire weekend.) Next run the engine to see whether the CEL stays ON. If so, pull the code again to see whether it is the same one.

First get the CEL code fixed, and then have the emissions test repeated. It's possible that the rich running condition destroyed the cat. Nonetheless, wait for results of a new emissions test before taking any further action.
