Default High Beams?

I have a 2002 Honda Civic. Recently the high beams have been failing to turn on...checked the bulb those are fine...checked the fuse those are good to go. Could this be faulty wiring? Is that usually an expensive job?

If you know your way around a multimeter, you can check to see if your headlight switch is sending voltage to the high beams. If no voltage is present, the switch may be bad. If the switch is sending 12V, the bulb or connector (or ground connection) may be bad. Of course, having a wire diagram would help.

I think on that model the high / low switch switches the ground side of the bulbs, but the concept is the same-- bad switch no high beams. (The low beams would go out when switched to high). If it has DRL (Canada) the high beams go through the DRL system too.

That's good to know. It does make sense that switching ground is the safer way to go. And as you said, either way, no voltage would be measured at the lights (without ground).
