Default hood release cable

my plastic hood release pull broke inside the car

the hood still opens but just had the metal rod to grab.

Found this site - saved me a couple hundred bucks just for plastic and it works really well
I just had to use wire cutters to cut the rest of the plastic that is on the metal cable but after that it works really well and would recommend doing this if your plastic just broke and you can still open the hood with the cable. It is literally a 10 minute job.

Just thought I would share in case someone was in the same boat as I was and didn't want to replace the whole cable. Not to sure about the looks of it but it looks better than I thought it would and if I get sick of it I can always paint the face of it.

The complete stock cable assembly is not expensive at all (less than that piece costs) if you can install it yourself.

The hard part is should it be completely broken and you can't get the hood open to put in a new cable.

I agree - but why buy a whole assembly when just the plastic broke. and I didn't want to buy another whole assembly and have the same thing happen again.

the piece in the link is all metal and should never break.

and although installing a new assembly seems straight forward why would I want to do that when I can buy this piece and be done with it without having to remove the inner fender and bumper and then have the chance of the plastic breaking again. I would be upset if I spent the time of putting the whole assembly in and have the stupid plastic break again. If they made the cable metal why not just make the handle metal and be done with it. seems a lot easier to me than adding molded plastic on the end of a metal cable.

anyway just my two cents worth.
