I'm working on a 98 Civic that I bought from a friend. It was wrecked on the front drivers side and repaired by a family member with not much concern for doing things right. That being said......I need to replace the broken hood latch cable. I routed the new cable the way the old one was routed and it is binding and won't release the latch. I have the bumper off and there is no fender liner on the car yet. I'm looking for a routing diagram or some one to give me a detailed route. I also have the driver side headlight out for replacement. I may try to find another civic to look at but thought I'd ask here. Thanks, Al

 

The cable routing should not be critical. The hood may be tweaked in a way that puts a lot of stress on the latch, making it hard to release. Try loosening the bolts and moving the latch up so the hood doesn't close as tightly.

 

Good advise there mk378, I'll try that. I found a pic that shows the grommet going through to the fender well on an angle that can only happen when the cable is attached behind the wheel and pulled straight which should help too.
