How serious is this?

overhaul

you'll learn along the way, and then you'll know for sure afterwards what condition the engine is in. you could buy a new engine and have these same problems 500 miles after installing it.

Thanks a lot. That's sorta what I thought. Put one in today, back to square one tomorrow & outta $$ all at once. Can you recommend a good overhaul kit? I know to get the y8 gasket set as you've already stated previously. I know I will have to have the head removed to take the gasket in for matching to the local garage but if it's not a y8 i will request but if they don't have it i guess wait til i can find one.

I got the kit....the head's finished and all gaskets changed; only thing now is the mechanic got the wrong pistons thinking it was for a vtec since i have a vtec head but instead he was supposed to get them for the regular 1.6L engine. (You'd think a mechanic would consult with you before even buying stuff for your car). The car starts with no leaks now but there's a compression problem since it's the wrong pistons. I'm not sure what pistons to get though. Can anyone suggest a good piston set at an affordable price? And would it be recommended to change the connecting arms too? I was told that there's a kit the comes with the pistons and the arms but I'm newb so I wouldn't know. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Also, can having a 1.7L or 1.5L head on a 1.6L block cause compression problems or any others? Thanks.
