Default I have no idea whats wrong...

Okay, for a long time my car has been making this little clicking/pinging noise when i reach 3500-4000 and also for a second when i shift. well it started getting alot worse but i thought it was just an exhaust gasket leak (that terrible noise when you're at 2000 or at low rpms) so i wasn't too worried about it. On the highway at about 75 it got ALOT worse and when i was setting at an idle i could still hear it clearly (worse than ever before). i was so worried about what was going on that i ran a stop sign... well there was a hump in the middle of the road and when i hit that hump the car shut off. Now the car shuts off with clutch application. i'm lost here. i really appreciate any help you guys can offer.
