Default IDing an engine noise

I've got a 1995 Honda Civic DX. Everything is stock. In the past six months the engine has developed a funny noise and I'm stumped by it. When I start the car up after it's been sitting and the engine is particularly cold (like first thing in the morning) it makes a noise that sounds something like psst...psst...psst...psst... As the engine warms up the sound generally goes away. It also tends to either disappear, or just be drowned out by other engine noises as RPMs increase, only to return when the engine drops back to idle. Any ideas?

are you throwing a CEL or anything?

possible vacuum leak maybe??

Try popping the hood, and letting the car idle. Then stick your head in the engine bay (with caution) and see if you can pinpoint where the sound is coming from. THat will definitely help us try and diagnose the problem.

You can use a long screw driver or steel rod, put your ear to one end and touch the other end to the part of the engine you think is making the noise. You'll be amazed at how the sound transfers up the srew driver and helps you locate where the noise is coming from.
