Not quite XCM828, but thanks for the response.
My problem is a little different... when applying constant gas at around 2000rpm, the revs begin to increase, then decrease and so on in an fast yet undulating fashion. It is subtle I admit and possibly totally reasonable with a 11 year old car, but it bugs the hell out of me as it causes the car to accelerate, decellerate, accellerate and so on... I though maybe it could be a similar problem to the original post, just at a higher rpm. What do you think?
Cheers.

I think we may have a new problem on our hands guys. I remember cause mine does it as well. it will do it for a couple of days and then it will stop. and it will be fine for weeks and maybe a month and a half. and then it starts up again. but i have never heard of it doing it while i am driving. my car only does it when i throw the clutch in and also when i put it in neiutral. but never while i am driving. this could be the resuult of a bad plug or wire not sending enough spark at some moments

My car does that once in a while, but that is because my gas pedal sticks. It sometimes gets stuck at 1500 RPMs unless I pull the gas pedal. If I let it stay in that position, it will eventually start going up and down in RPM, down to 600, up to 1500, down to 600, up to 1500, etc. It stops if I pull the gas pedal back through the sticky spot.

in your case, it may be that you have too much tension on your throttle cable... there should actually be just a little bit of slack in the line or the return spring will not pull it back by itself..

If you have access to a scan tool, check the number of steps the IAC motor is set to. If the computer is telling the IAC to stay at one spot, and it isn't, then there most probably is a problem with the IAC. And if the computer is telling the IAC to change, there might be another sensor that is broken or something.
My car is doing the same thing,
I have access to the scan tool but I dont know what you mean by "check the number of steps the IAC motor is set to"

is your check engine light (cel) on?
if so, then do a scan.
