My 01 civic lx is sitting right about 104500 miles. About 2500 or so miles ago, the SRS light came on. I haven't taken it very seriously because I'm sure it's designed to come on to entice me to have it serviced after about 100k miles. Recently my "Maintd req'd" light came on as well. If I remember, this comes on when the car thinks it hasn't had an oil change for a while (I've been doing that myself.)

Are my assumptions on the SRS reasonable? Can I turn this light off without seeing a mechanic? Is that even legal? Does the maint light come on when the car isn't told it's had an oil change for a while?

Where can I find a device that will tell me why the maint light is on?
