Jerkiness while accelerating (98 Civic HX)
Hi, I'm new to the forum. I just bought a used 98 Civic HX MT with about 100k miles on it. I've noticed that when I'm accelerating in 3rd or 4th gear, it's not smooth but kind of jerky. It's kind of hard to describe and doesn't happen all the time. It usually happens when I'm accelerating on a long stretch of road in 3rd or 4th gear. I guess you could describe it kind of as having your foot on the gas pedal, applying pressure, releasing, applying pressure, releasing, etc. I got the timing belt changed the second or third day I bought it. I've also recently changed the spark plugs. Any guess as to why this happens? Could it be the ignition wires need to be changed?
Thanks in advance for any info you can give.

the plug wires are a possibility, but it sounds like fuel starvation (you are running lean)... dirty/clogged injectors or a bad fuel pump are some possibilities. Hard to really say over a computer.

You could prolly use a tune up, it can't hurt. You already changed the plugs, so it might not be a bad idea to change the plug wires, fuel filter, and air filter. If you are running lean, the computer should compensate for this by making the A/F mixture rich. You could check the O2 sensor with a scan tool. So when your car is hesitating, you can see what all the sensors are doing.
