Hi all! Just purchased a 99 Hx coupe in silver. Has 98K miles on it with an auto tranny. I love the car, seems solid and would last me for a long time. The only problem is when I step on the gas from a stop or when the car is rolling and I push the car a bit. The whole car shudders and hesitates. Then after 2 seconds the car accelerates without problems. If it was a manual transmission I would describe it more as a clutch slipping. Can it be a torque converter issue or possibly drive shaft? The engine seems fine and smooth, probably just needs a tune up. I can shift thru all the gears in the auto tranny smoothly also. Thanks all in advance for any advice.

 

check your fluid, and it could also be the torque conv.

 

try changing the trans fluid -its about the only thing you can do -short of a rebuild- make sure you use genuine honda fluid

 

Hey i got this same problem with my 97 Coupe EX, just got it like 4 days ago, auto tranny too, from what i read i think i might have to check the torque conv too just in case, i feel that its not letting those horses out as it should for a VTEC engine when i floor the pedal, the motorseems to be in goodshape itonly has 96k miles on it as per the marker says, ill try to change all the oils and see if any difference, also would 17" rims affect the torqueor acceleration of my car?, i bought the car with those on ive heard they might affect it. When i do the changes ill post again and see if any results and hopefully some pics too.

Well, just changed engine oil, spark plugs, air filter which were EXTREMELY dirty and the shuddering got a lot better but still has a bit left. The next day I got the CVT fluid from the dealer and drained and filled the transmission. But that didn't change much of anything. Is there something with the engine that can possibly be the problem? since changing the eingine oil, plugs and air filter helped so much? While changing the tranny fluid didn't make much of a difference?
