Linear Solenoid help!
Hi everyone. I am new to this forum. I don't have a lot of mechanical ability but hey, I'm trying! I have a 1997 Honda Civic LX 4-door w/auto transmission. I need to replace the linear solenoid P/N 28250-P4R-315.
I have the part and transmission fluid but I'm not sure where the linear solenoid is. Do I access it from under the hood or under the car? Is it hard to replace? Can someone post a picture of a similar Civic showing where the linear solenoid is? Any instructions on how to replace it would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

It's on the outside of the transmission, on the front, toward the end that is away from the engine. Reach it from under the car (take the splash shield off first). Once you have the new one in your hand it should be obvious where it goes.
Faces the front of the car. I don't know much about automatics I'm just going by this diagram:
Honda Automotive Parts
The linear solenoid is part #32. Also of course you would use a new gasket #33.

A mechanic told me to also replace my 1998 honda civic linear solenoid because I was having harsh shifting. But before that, he told me to flush the tranny fluid couple times to see if it would make a difference.
How much fluid am I suppose to put back into the tranny? 2.9Q according to spec? or the amount drained out of the tranny when I first drained it, which was about 2.5Q? yes, i used a measurement cup to be sure
the mechanic said i should put back the same amount that I drained out initially. does that sound right?

also, get some Honda Manual Transmission Fluid from the Honda dealership. It isn't too pricey, and it really makes for a smooth transmission. You'll need 2 bottles.
OP, I wish I could help, but I don't have any experience with AT's. All I know is that they have a transmission cooler embedded within the radiator which hard lines to go and from. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
I went to the honda dealer to pickup some AT fluid. The guy told me to just fill it thru the dipstick area until it reach the top mark of the dipstick. Now I just need to find somewhere that sells the linear solenoid cheaper than the dealer.
Thanks for all your help guys
