Default maintenance required light

yo

when i start my car, the maintenance required light will flash three or four times and then shut off. is that normal or does it need maintenance?

the only time mine blinked like that was when I went thru a 3 foot deep puddle at 30 mph. My engine started stalling but the water that was sucked into my ram finally dissapated and the engine was fine.

BS. If the light came on it set a code. It's either current or in history. Make them scan it. Ask them for the code.

no, its the maintenence required light, not the check engine light. id go with what the tech said. if it was the CEL, then you could pull the code, but if its MR, then just trust the tech.

well, i figured that might have something to do with it since he manual said the check engine light normally refers to emmissions

That's a big help... I wasn't sure if something was wrong or if it was just since I changed the oil. So let me get this straight: a "check engine" light means that the computer threw out a code and the "maintenance required" thing that it not a light (in a 98 anyway) means that a certain interval has passed or it means you changed the oil. Right?
