Default Maintenance Required Light in Dash

I helped my daughter purchase her first new car, a 2005 Civic LX Coupe, yesterday. During the delivery it was pointed out that a Maintenance Required light on the dash came on at a preprogrammed time whenever a certain maintenance was required. I was told that only the Honda dealership could disable this light.

I like to do basic maintenance and I find this Maintenance Required light to be a bit of a potential PIA if the information is correct. If it is correct how can a person reset the light?

Two ways to reset, Call dealer and ask nicely or this may work. "To reset after oil & filter change: turn key on while holding in trip odometer. Hold for approximately 8 to 10 seconds with switch on, then switch off and repeat if necessary. The light may flash a few times but should reset. If memory serves correctly it should come on around 7500 miles or that may have changed. Welcome aboard.

I think the 2005 might have two buttons on the instrument cluster, or just to the right of it. If it has the two buttons, you must hold them both down while you turn the ignition to the "run" position. Wait until the light begins to flash, then turn the ignition "Off". If it only has one button, perform the same procedure with that one only.

Some models have a trip reset button and a clock adjustment dial. In this case, just use the button.. the dial will not push in.

You guys are THE BEST!!

I installed a K&N FIPK II on my '05 EX Coupe at around 10, 300 miles. Just after my 10K oil change. The Maint' Light came on and I thought, "...Oh no, the oil from the K&N filter has done something!!..."

Well, I just tried the "reset" trick and IT WORKS.

Keep up the GOOD WORK and FREE INFO!!, and take the whole week off with pay!!

Welcome to HCF. My 02' works that way. Or you could go to the dealership and get it reset for about $350.00. j/k.
