Correct. I think a bad MAP sensor or circuit is unlikely. Check spark and then the fast idle valve. In the latter case, the port in the throttle body leading to the fast idle valve should suck air when the engine is cold but not hot. If not, remove and clean the valve.

Clean port where air flows with carburetor cleaner.

one thing that stoped my 94civic from starting up was old coroded distributor cap and button... i replaced the 2 brand new ones, removed the spark plugs over night to dry out the flooded gas in the motor. started up next day right off.

thats very quick and easy to check. 3 bolts on the distributor cap and just look at the tips.... if gunk/corroded up you can either clean it or just replace them. tho the distributor button is alittle harder to replace since you must get the button spun over so the screw is accesable to be removed. can be tuff to get just right. just keep at it. it might not be but i would check the distributor cap first IMO.

clean what port?
When the engine is cold, the fast idle valve allows air to bypass the throttle plate and go directly into the intake manifold, thereby increasing idle speed. If the valve does not properly open when the engine is cold, then starting difficulties can arise due to insufficient air intake. Cleaning the valve with carburetor cleaner can often solve this problem. Therefore, remove the fast idle valve and then use carburetor cleaner to clean out the channel where air flows through the valve.

By the way, did you find that the fast idle valve port in the throttle body was not sucking air when the engine was cold?

the fast idle valve has strong suction, and spark is good...now what do you think it is?

Were you having the cold start problem when you did these tests? This is important as the problem is intermittent.
