NEED HELP!!! HEAD, TIMING, T-BELT
Ok I am finally lost. Well I changed the head and headgasket and when I took off the timing cover the belt just fell to the bottom. It was completely snapped in half. Ok well I am in the process of putting the new timing belt on. I set the oil pump groove to the arrow. Next I lined up the cam gear to the UP position and what I think the two lines ar even with the head. Also on the cam gear there is a line where it supposed to be lined up with a notch or some kind of an arrow. I put the timing belt on, the timing cover and crankshaft pulley. NOW WHICH LINE IS TDC. I have 4 I have 3 together and 1 all by itself to the right. If I line it up the with the 3 using the middle line ON THE protruding V on the timing cover. My cam gear doesnt line up anymore and it is a little off. What do I do? Do it all over again or what. Will it be ok or do I have to re-set it again. Another question is the distrubutor can only go in on way right. So my distrubutor should be fine right. Please and I do appreciate all of your guy's gals help. Thanks

The only thing I can answer is that the position of the distributer will control ignition advancement and retard, you need to use a timing light to set it correctly. Move it to counterclockwise (toward the firewall) to advance timing and clockwise(toward the front of the car) to retard timing.
The cam is set as you describe, the up side up and the two lines parallel with the bottom of the head or the top of the block. As for the crank, there is a little mark on one of the crank sprocket teeth, and THAT is what you set to the arrow on the oil pump, NOT the key slot. The SINGLE mark on the crank pulley meeting the pointer on the outer bottom cover is TDC. The group of 3 is the proper amount BTDC to be used when setting the spark timing with a light.
It is possible to engage the distributor shaft 180 degrees out of phase. Note the grooves on the distributor drive cog and the end of the camshaft, they should both be toward the front (exhaust) side of the engine when at TDC1. Also you can make sure the rotor points at the #1 spark plug wire on the cap when the engine is at TDC1. If you have the distributor 180 degrees out it won't damage anything, but of course it won't start.

Ok I got the timing I believe figured out. Put the distiburtor in at TDC and the number 1 plug. I am just trying to start it with no accessories on ie alt, ps, and the ac belt off. I need to see if this car can run for 1 min. Then I can install everything back on. My problem is when the car is trying to start the distributor is kinda like wobbling. Meaning. its trying to spin with it. Also can there be a problem with the starter. Its just making the noise of wanting to start but nothing. The cam is turning as well as the crank and when I go to put the motor at TDC everthing is lined up So I keep double checking that. What can the problem be? Thanks
