I'm pretty sure that the speed sensor runs the cruise control on that car. Also the torque converter uses the speed sensor to lock the converter in. Some times the CEL won't come on with a speed sensor going bad. You should also be able to unplug the sensor and use a
digital voltmeter to check for AC voltage and most have a HTZ setting on them. The frequincy should increase as the tire speed increases. Check thats and see what you get. Good luck.
